Meet Lynne Strom-Berg: Mosaic Artist

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynne Strom-Berg.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?

I’m a Bay Area native who grew up in Los Altos Hills, back when the valley was filled with orchards and small ranch houses. Over the years, I’ve lived in San Francisco and Santa Cruz, but I now call the Garden Alameda neighborhood of San Jose home—just a short walk from my art studio. I hold a B.A. in Creative Arts and Music, and an M.A. in Arts Administration. My background reflects my lifelong dedication to the arts in many forms.

Tell us about your art and the inspiration behind it.

I am a multidisciplinary artist and lifelong creative, inspired by the beauty of music, nature, humor, and heartfelt emotion. As a composer, educator, and business owner, my creative journey has never been confined to a single medium. I studied stained glass for several years before discovering mosaic art, which truly captured my heart. I fell in love with the freedom it offered—the joy of breaking and reassembling pieces in entirely new ways. I enjoy working in mixed media that includes alcohol ink, paper, pottery, glass, jewelry, and stone. Almost anything can become part of a mosaic, which makes it an endlessly expressive and liberating art form. I also love incorporating humor into my work—I find laughter to be one of life’s most vital and healing forces, especially as I grow older.

For over 13 years, I’ve been part of The Alameda Artworks, where I’ve found a wonderful, supportive community and made lasting friendships. I’m incredibly grateful for this vibrant artistic home.

During the pandemic, I published an affirmation book called The Road Home. The positive messages in it resonated with people, and it was a reminder of how essential art and creativity are—especially in uncertain times. I’m also passionate about reading, writing, poetry, inspirational quotes, and anything that opens the mind to new possibilities and a greater understanding of oneself. I’m always eager to learn new techniques and explore fresh ways to live a creative life.

Do you have any news you'd like to tell us about?

Now retired from my music education career, I have the freedom to fully explore other avenues of art. In recent years, I’ve begun creating micro mosaic jewelry. It’s rewarding to see a little piece of my artwork hanging around a friend or client's neck.  I’ve also been working with stone and wood in a more meditative, Zen-inspired way. My latest project is a “spine series” focused on alignment and chronic pain, which continues to evolve.
